One of the first questions I'm asked when delivering that new piece of furniture is "How do I care for it?".  Over the years, I've tried virtually every furniture care product on the market but none seemed to do all the things I wanted.  Some leave behind an oily residue that can actually attract dirt and dust.  Some contain waxes that build up ( regardless of what the manufacturer says) and need to be removed regularly to prevent damaging the finish.  Applying wax over wax simply waxes in dirt.  We wouldn't wax our car without washing it first but it's done to furniture everyday.  And the leading polish/wax contains silicones which do a couple of things:  they make the finish feel slippery and they create havoc when the furniture requires refinishing.  Both are unnecessary as today's finishes provide all the protection your furniture needs.  And they don't require waxing, just a good cleaner/polish.
