Since 1979, I have been designing and building Sheet Music Cabinets, custom wood furniture, and specialized cabinetry for residential and contract customers.  The scope of my work consists of custom, one-of-a-kind pieces that at times are influenced by the fine antiques I am privileged to restore to their original condition.  My custom work ranges from the elegantly understated to somewhat bold, including using highly figured woods in very clean designs.  An example is this Walnut Burl Sheet Music Cabinet .  In addition, I sometimes combine two mixable woods such as maple and mahogany in the same piece.  This allows both woods to draw something from the other in ways that are quite nice.  Note the Cherry Sheet Music Cabinet above.  Maple drawer sides with black leather bottoms contrast very nicely with the cherry exterior.  One of my beds, designed by Ian Kirby and made of quartersawn English Brown Oak and ebonized American White Ash, was featured in Fine Woodworking magazine in 1986.  I was able to spend valuable time with Mr. Kirby, and his influence can be seen in many of my pieces.  I have also written for Professional Refinishing magazine, most recently an article on recreating the cherry finishes currently being used by the major furniture manufacturers.

Don't forget to check out our  Cabinet Refacing and Kitchen Designer services.  In addition, we do detailed Antique Appraisals and Furniture Evaluation services that greatly assist you in determining what you need to know about age, condition, and value of your fine furniture and antiques.  This can prove indispensable in insurance claims or estate planning.

While you're here, visit the Barns of Rutherford County.  These photos were taken during the past few years and some of the barns pictured here no longer exist.  It is a hobby of mine to photograph icons of rural western North Carolina that accurately depicted life during the early part of the past century.   Sadly, these beautiful reminders of another generation are soon to disappear and pass into history.  Some of the photos are courtesy of my buddy, Fred Matthews.  (Maybe I should say they're courtesy of Fred's wife, Bess!)  Fred designed and painted the beautiful barn signs pictured here.

Ever had a question about woodworking, furniture, cabinets, or antique restoration  but didn't know who to ask?  Why not ask us and get an answer the same day (or maybe the next if I'm busy!)  It's free.
